Pre-beta policy draft · Effective July 15, 2026 · Last updated July 15, 2026
Privacy Policy
This policy explains how ChatKC collects, uses, discloses, protects, and deletes personal information when you use our websites, future iOS or Android applications, emails, APIs, and related services (together, the “Service”). It applies wherever this policy is linked.
Information you provide
- Account information: name, email address, username, any age-eligibility information requested during registration, and password credentials stored in hashed form.
- Profile and social information: profile details, biography, location you choose to display, profile design, social connections, groups, events, and audience settings.
- Content and communications: posts, blogs, comments, messages, media, albums, polls, reports, support tickets, appeals, and other information you submit. Message content is processed so it can be delivered, protected, and reviewed when reported or required for safety.
- Requests and feedback: information you provide in support, safety, rights, beta, or research communications.
Information collected when you use the Service
We process session identifiers, IP address (which can convey an approximate location), browser and device type, operating system, app version where applicable, language, timestamps, referring pages, feature interactions, diagnostics, crash information where available, and security or audit events. We do not use precise device location unless a feature clearly requests it and you grant permission.
Device permissions and future apps
A mobile app may ask for access to photos or camera when you choose to upload media, notifications when you choose to receive alerts, microphone access for a feature that records audio, contacts for an expressly described connection feature, or location for a location-aware feature. We will explain the purpose before or when permission is requested. You can change permissions in device settings. ChatKC does not access these resources merely because the app is installed.
How we use information
- Provide, personalize, maintain, and troubleshoot the Service.
- Authenticate accounts, honor privacy and audience controls, deliver messages and notifications, and process account requests.
- Detect spam, fraud, security incidents, illegal material, and violations of our Community Guidelines; investigate reports and appeals; and protect members and the public.
- Measure reliability and feature use, conduct privacy-conscious product research, and improve accessibility and performance.
- Communicate about the Service, policy changes, support requests, and security matters.
- Comply with law, preserve legal claims, and enforce our Terms of Service.
How information is disclosed
Other people: Your profile and content are shown according to your audience selections, the nature of the feature, and applicable safety controls. Public content may be viewed or copied by people outside ChatKC.
Service providers: Vendors may process limited information for hosting, database, storage, email, security, moderation support, analytics, and operations under contracts that restrict their use of the information.
Legal and safety: We may preserve or disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, protect rights and safety, investigate abuse, or prevent serious harm.
Business changes: Information may be transferred as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, subject to applicable law and notice requirements.
We do not sell personal information. We do not currently share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. If that changes, we will update this policy and provide legally required choices before beginning.
Retention and deletion
Active-account data is generally retained while needed to provide requested features. Expired sessions are scheduled for deletion after the operational window; reliability samples are retained for a shorter operational period; and deleted content is removed or anonymized after the applicable recovery and integrity window. Certain moderation evidence and audit records may be retained longer—currently up to two years—when needed for safety, legal review, security, fraud prevention, or administrator accountability. Backups expire on a separate protected schedule. Legal holds may extend these periods.
Security
We use encryption in transit, restricted database roles, access controls, session protections, audit records, media validation, tested backups, and operational monitoring. No service can guarantee absolute security. Report suspected account compromise through the Support Center or email safety@chatkc.com.
Your choices and privacy rights
You can update profile information, change audiences and communication settings, block members, export your data, deactivate your account, or request permanent deletion from Settings. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of personal information; withdraw consent; appeal a denied request; or lodge a complaint with a regulator. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right. We verify requests to protect the account.
Use the Privacy & data settings, create a support ticket, or email privacy@chatkc.com. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted by law, but we may require proof of authority and identity.
Children and teens
ChatKC is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. Members under the age of majority should use the Service with guidance from a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly use teen data for targeted advertising. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email privacy@chatkc.com so we can investigate and delete the account where required.
International use
ChatKC is operated from the United States. If you use the Service elsewhere, information may be processed in the United States or other countries where service providers operate. We will use legally required safeguards for applicable international transfers before offering the Service broadly in those locations.
Automated systems and moderation
Automated systems may identify spam, suspicious activity, unsafe links, or potentially prohibited content and may temporarily limit distribution or route material for review. Significant enforcement decisions remain subject to human review or an appeal where applicable.
Changes and contact
We will post updated versions here and provide additional notice before material changes take effect when required. Questions may be sent to privacy@chatkc.com. This pre-beta draft is designed to support web and future app disclosures but still requires qualified counsel review before general public launch.
